What is our version of nutrition?
Following our previous post where we defined our version of fitness, we thought it natal to outline or version of nutrition and explain our approach with our clients. At Bottom Line Fitness, we believe that dialling in your nutrition in THOERY is really quite simple, but in practice that does not mean it is EASY… at all! On paper everything is statistical and robotically calculated with X amount of protein, fats and carbs in the right amount of calories equalling a Greek God or Goddess in 10 weeks or less with no refunds!
The problem is that we aren’t robots. Deep down we know what is going to support our goals and lead to a healthier body and mind… but when someone brings in those chocolate coated donuts with the little sprinkles and caramel filling in the office to celebrate a birthday, well then it would be rude not to give in to temptation… right?
Mindful eating can help you be aware of what you put in your mouth but remember that we are human and some indulgence can be taken in to account for if we monitor what eat. If we track to learn (not accounting for each granule of salt consumed of course) then we can be on track most of the time and see great results.
Try downloading a free fitness tracker (such as MyFitness Pal) and use it to learn about your eating habits and what is in each meal for 2-4 days. You may be surprised how much or little you are eating during the day, and why that takeaway menu all of a sudden comes out in the evening after a day of “trying to be good”.
Mindfully observe and track, learn then ask if this supports your goals? Have I eaten enough protein to help my body recover? Have I eaten too much of a particular food and can I offset that the following day? Are all my calories at work or at home? Can I prepare at the weekend to have readily available food to go at work?
Small incremental changes can have a massive influence on your body composition, but we must first understand what we are eating so we can make good decisions. We are in control of what we put in to our mouth, so make it something that will support you for the long-term goal.
